On July 8th, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference, the Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 11th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology were held in Beijing. Three Sinopec projects have won the National Science and Technology Award for 2025. Among them, the leading project “New Technology of Liquid Holding Granular Fluidized Bed Ethylene Polymerization” won the second prize of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress, and the two participating projects “In situ Observation Technology and Equipment for Geological Environment of Deep Sea Mineral Development Engineering” and “Key Technology and Application of Water Control and Oil Increase in Temperature resistant and Salt resistant Gel Dispersion System” won the second prize of the the State Technological Innovation Award.

The “New Technology for Liquid Particle Fluidized Bed Ethylene Polymerization Reaction” project centers on the structural contradiction between a severe surplus of common materials and the shortage of high-end specialized materials in existing polyethylene products. After years of basic research, technological development, and engineering application verification, a new technology for liquid-particle fluidized-bed ethylene polymerization has been developed, and a series of high-end new products with low, ultra-low, and extremely low densities have been developed and produced. It has been successfully applied to the construction and renovation of 11 large-scale polyethylene plants, making China the first country to have original high-performance polyethylene process technology sets. The core technical indicators are internationally leading, marking China’s polyethylene technology as a world leader.

A total of 258 projects and 11 science and technology experts were selected for the 2025 National Science and Technology Award.
