PVA can form hydrogen bonds with porous materials such as paper, wood and fibers, resulting in a strong bonding effect. That’s the key point which PVA use for adhesives. The colloidal solution formed after dissolving PVA exhibits excellent film-forming properties. It forms a dense, flexible film and improves the water resistance and stability of the adhesive.
At the same time, it effectively increases the viscosity of the adhesive system, preventing stratification and precipitation. It can be added as a modifier to other adhesives to improve their flexibility, weather resistance, and bonding performance. For example, it can be used in thermosetting resin adhesives such as urea-formaldehyde resin and phenolic resin to reduce the free formaldehyde content and improve environmental friendliness.
