China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC GROUP) currently boasts an integrated annual production capacity of 306,000 tons of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a basic chemical new material with tremendous development potential. PVA features outstanding spinning, film-forming and bonding properties and is widely used in the chemical, textile, plastics, papermaking, leather, adhesive, construction and many other fields. With prominent environmental advantages such as easy degradation and zero residual pollution, it offers ample room for industrial development.
Through group-wide continuous technological innovation and facility transformation across multiple production bases, SINOPEC’s complete PVA production processes have been increasingly refined. The Group masters a full spectrum of core technologies across three PVA production routes: the natural gas acetylene process, the petroleum ethylene process and the coal-based process and can mass-customize general and special PVA products with varying degrees of polymerization and alcoholysis.
All Sinopec PVA manufacturing businesses within the Group adopt control technology based on PLCs and DCS to achieve full-process intelligent management. The Group has obtained ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certifications, and has completed carbon footprint certification for all PVA product series.
The Group adheres to the development of a low-carbon economy. It coordinates three major sinopec PVA production subsidiaries, including Chuanwei Chemical, Ningxia Energy & Chemical and Shanghai Petrochemical, to implement green process upgrades, such as energy conservation, waste heat recovery and solvent recycling. It optimizes production carbon emissions through low-carbon feedstock routes for natural gas and coal, and develops supporting new materials, including EVOH barrier resin, water-soluble film, and photovoltaic-specific degradable materials, continuously improving the full low-carbon industrial chain for eco-friendly new materials.

Polyvinyl alcohol is a non-toxic, odorless, and pollution-free white solid, available in three types: flocculent, granular, and powdery. It can be dissolved in water at 80-90°C, and its aqueous solution has good adhesion and film-forming properties.
Mainly used for warp yarn slurry, fabric finishing agent, and vinylon fiber raw materials in the textile industry; 107 adhesives, interior and exterior wall coatings, and adhesives in the construction and decoration industry; Used in the chemical industry as a polymerization emulsifier, dispersant, and polyvinyl formal, acetaldehyde, and butyral resin; Used as a paper adhesive in the papermaking industry; Used in agriculture as soil amendments, pesticide adhesion enhancers, and polyvinyl alcohol films; It can also be used in daily cosmetics and high-frequency quenching agents.
